Give These Holiday Recipes A Try

As you make your plans for Christmas dinner, you might want to try something new for the appetizers. Try these creative starters for the holidays!

Tortilla Roll-Ups

This charming starter is as tasty as it is decorative. Served cool and wrapped to bite-sized perfection, these tortilla roll-ups sport a verdant, festive color thanks to the green flour tortillas, which serve as the wrapping for a cream cheese and ranch filling. To complete the filling’s flavor, you’ll also need green onions, yellow bell pepper, pimentos, olives, and green chiles. For proper presentation, stack the rolls into a Christmas tree shape, then add some cherry tomatoes as ornaments. If you want snow, sprinkle on a little cheese. You can even crown the tree with a star cut out from the yellow bell pepper!

Fried Ravioli

While you can use virtually any kind of ravioli you like for this recipe, the melty texture of a cheese-filled ravioli is hard to resist. To prep the pasta for frying, you’ll have to dredge and bread them. Set up a station with one bowl containing a mixture of egg and half-and-half, another containing flour, and a final bowl filled with breadcrumbs (a mix of seasoned Italian bread and panko would be ideal). Fry the ravioli in canola oil in small batches – about three or four at a time for a couple of minutes – until golden. When they’ve cooled and dried, serve them with a selection of sauces like pesto or warmed marinara.

Roasted Parmesan Garlic Shrimp

How about a little seafood? Tail-on shrimp make for fantastic finger food, and it doesn’t take long at all to prep this delicious dish. You’ll need a pound of shrimp, plus chopped parsley, lemon juice, dried herbs like basil and oregano, minced garlic, extra virgin olive oil, plus salt and pepper to taste. Bring the oven up to 350 degrees F, peel and devein the shrimp, then spread them out on a baking sheet to apply the oil and flavorings. Toss it all together, then roast the shrimp for about nine minutes. When they’re done, sprinkle on a bit of lemon juice for a citrus kick.
